New and bigger wildlife havens
The Wildlife Trusts will create new wildlife areas and expand existing nature reserves and habitats to ensure that wildlife has more opportunities to adapt and cope with change
Bigger nature reserves give wildlife more room to move and cope with change, as they are more likely to find a suitable refuge with the conditions they need to survive. For example, wildlife can find areas which are the right temperature and have the right amount of shade or moisture. Food sources and opportunities for shelter are also more abundant.
The Wildlife Trusts are working to buy and lease more land to make our current reserves larger or to join nearby reserves together. This year in the Eastern Region we have purchased several hundred acres of land to create new and bigger nature reserves.
We are working to restore and recreate a range of lost habitats for wildlife, including large areas of woodland, meadows, wetlands, fenland and heathland.
